Pawned Souls blends chess with Souls-like mechanics

Pawned Souls is a free game that redefined chess with progressive difficulty. The Dark Souls 2 mod allows barrier-free co-op.

The protagonist is a pawn that must eliminate other pieces at increasing difficulty. It allows up to five players to play together throughout the entire experience. The mod includes difficulty options and simplified connection. The death mechanic sends the player back to the last bonfire. The mod is in alpha with possible bugs. It requires version 1.03 of Dark Souls 2.

Yui stressed that playing with friends 'certainly makes the game much easier' (in a loose translation). But the mod was 'designed to be fun, rather than to reduce the challenge'. Co-op is full and seamless, and can be played in a single session up to the final boss.
