Sony reinterprets the transparent design of the 1990s with modern materials and finishes. The Prism Collection reveals the internal components of the DualSense controllers and the PS5, interacting with light to create a unique visual effect. The transparent design not only shows the internal structure but also offers a touch of personalization. The colors Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray bring a modernized retro aesthetic, combining the classic style with current technology.

Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray are the available options, revealing internal components and interacting with light. The idea is to blend classic style with current technology, something the brand has already experimented with in other accessories. The inspiration comes from devices such as the iMac G3 and the first generations of the Xbox, when transparent materials were a hit.

The new collection is part of a Sony strategy to revalue the design of its products, in line with releases such as the Isles of Abyss expansion and the game Suri: The Seventh Note. Prices range from 75 to US$ 94.63 (converted from EUR 85), depending on the region.

Transparent design reveals components and interacts with light

The goal is to recreate the retro style with modern materials that complement the PS5's aesthetic. Designer Leo Cardoso explains that the transparency allows "a closer look at the design and craftsmanship behind our DualSense controllers and PlayStation 5 consoles" (loosely translated).

Each of these colors was chosen to highlight the internal components of the console and controllers. The transparency also interacts with light, creating a visual effect that varies depending on the environment. The Prism Collection brings a new aesthetic approach, in which transparency is not only visual but also functional, revealing internal components and allowing reflected light to alter the appearance of the devices. This creates a dynamic effect that can change depending on the lighting of the environment. The reinterpretation of the retro design involves modern finishes that maintain the classic aesthetic, but with new manufacturing techniques and surface treatments. Sony seeks to balance vintage style with durability and resistance to prolonged use, something that may appeal to players who value both aesthetics and functionality.
